Splitrock Environmental Sekw'el'was is an aboriginal owned business that specializes in environmental services, ecological restoration, ethnobotanical services, and propagation of native plants. We are looking for a highly motivated individual who has a passion for the environment, who is a team player, and eager to learn. Splitrock is a multi-discipline company, and the assistant will have the opportunity to assist in many different projects being undertaken at Splitrock.
Responsibilities:
The Senior Environmental Technician or Junior Biologist will require a diverse skillset to fulfill various job duties including, but not limited, to:
• Environmental Monitoring (construction projects)
• Fish Salvages
• Field surveys including fish and wildlife salvages, and fish, wildlife and vegetation assessments.
• Water quality measurements (field and lab)
• Data collection, data entry and report preparation
• Assist with project planning and implementation
• Supervision of Junior staff, scheduling and communications
Qualifications and Skills
• Experience in conducting bird surveys -- acoustic and visual, as well as nest monitoring.
• Experience in amphibian, reptile and/or bat surveys is not required, however preference may be given to candidates possessing these skill sets;
• Must be physically fit, this is a physical job
• A positive attitude, ability to be flexible, and someone who thrives on diversity in their job.
• Willing to work remotely on weekends and holiday, willing to work long hours
• Able to work in varying environmental conditions, a range of temperatures and in Swiftwater.
• Must be able to work with wildlife and fish; experience or being willing to learn how to handle wildlife
• Experience working with aboriginal communities, industry and non-profit organizations.
• Excellent verbal communication skills and ability to work effectively in interactive multi disciplinary team situations.
• Must be experienced with computers, able to write reports and use excel.
• Diploma or bachelor's degree in environmental science with a strong preference for someone with their Biologist in training designation for the college of applied biology.
• Experience with statistical analyses is preferred
• First Aid is a benefit however we will train if necessary
• Must have experience environmental monitoring for construction, ideally with a certificate in environmental monitoring
• Class 5 Driver's License
Salary is between $62,400-$72,800 depending on experience, Splitrock has an extensive benefits package as well as a flexible, working environment.
