Splitrock Environmental Sekw’el’was is seeking a Fraser River Jetboat Operator for July through September 2024.
Splitrock Environmental Sekw’el’was is an aboriginal owned business that specializes in environmental services. We are looking for a highly motivated individual who has a passion for the aquatic environment, is a team player and eager to learn. The term position will provide full-time employment from July to September, 2024. Additional work opportunities may be available for the right candidate.
Responsibilities
The Jetboat Operator will primarily assist with our Catch-Monitoring Project on the Fraser River between Texas Creek and the Old Bridge in Lillooet, BC. The operator will navigate the river in a 21ft Kingfisher Jetboat to access fishing areas, collect data, and conduct interviews with the public and sports fisherman in an effort to monitor fisheries activity in the region.
Qualifications and Skills
- Have a minimum of 3 year’s experience operating a similar vessel
- Experience navigating in swift-water conditions with variable river discharges
- ust be competent in boat trailering
- Experience troubleshooting boat issues and comfortable using a kicker motor
- Willing to work a flexible schedule including early mornings and weekends
- Experience working with aboriginal communities, industry and non-profit organizations
- Excellent verbal communication skills
- Class 5 Driver’s License
- Pleasure Craft, Small Vessel Operator, Swiftwater Rescue and First Aid necessary (training opportunities available)
- Must be physically fit
- Positive attitude, flexible, and takes initiative
Wage is between $30-35 an hour depending on experience.
