Job Summary:
Sek'wel'was is in search of a highly skilled and organized individual to be the Emergency & Fire Smart Assistant. The Emergency & Fire Smart Assistant is responsible for assisting the Emergency Fire Smart Coordinator in the facilitation of Emergency & Fire Smart-related activities within the Sek'wel'was Community. The position will ensure that they support the Emergency Fire Smart Coordinator to ensure that the Emergency & Fire Smart activities are supported, developed, and implemented in accordance with Provincial guidelines as well as with the direction and policy provided by the community.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Assists the Emergency Fire Smart Coordinator with ensuring the Operational Readiness by coordinating and acts as the main point of contact for any Emergencies within the Sek'wel'was Community.
  • Assists with liaising with federal, provincial officials, municipal organizations, Indigenous communities and emergency agencies on programs and service delivery and responding to public information requests.
  • Assists in seeking and administering new Emergency & Fire Smart grant opportunities.
  • Assists in monitoring and reporting on grants received, assisting with annual budget preparation and preparing reports.
  • Assists in developing an emergency response and recovery policies.
  • Assists in creating internal, external, and public communications related to Emergency & Fire Smart activities in the Sek'wel'was Community.
  • Assists in recruiting and, coordinating training for Fire Smart personnel.
  • Assists with organizing Smart events for the Sek'wel'was Community members.

Key Skills and Abilities

  • Local Fire Smart Representative qualification or willingness to attain.
  • Computer literate in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Effectively assist in dealing with emergency situations.
  • Engage with fellow employees, the public and outside agencies in a courteous manner.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships.
  • Organize and prioritize contractors and volunteers.
  • Prepare clear and concise reports.
  • Professional competence in the development and administration of emergency management programs.

Qualifications

  • Emergency Management Certificate would be an asset;
  • Completion of Fire Smart 101 Training / Wildfire Risk reduction Training would be an asset;
  • Knowledge of fire prevention, Fire Smart, and emergency preparedness programs would be an asset;
  • Valid BC Driver's License and Satisfactory Canada Criminal Record Check.

Salary Range: $20.00 To $26.00 per hour depending on qualifications and skills
Term:Proposal based position for two years pending funding (Upon Completion of Probation)
Part Time, 21 Hour Per Week
