Job Summary:

The Candidate will implement Cayoose Creek Indian Band daycare programs ensuring that all the community members, on and off the Nation have access to adequate, equal, efficient, and quality services.

The ASHOR & Early Childhood Education Assistant is to help with the day-to-day operations of the Lil’ Quills HeadStart program and the daycare facility to establish and sustain a safe and positive learning environment for children. You should display a friendly demeanor, have a love for children, and strive to create a supportive and encouraging environment for both children, teachers and families.

 

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Ensure a safe, happy, and stimulating environment for children.
  • Manage and coordinate curricula with staff that complies with state and federal requirements.
  • Ensure that center facilities are safe for children and comply with laws and regulations.
  • Complete ongoing training and courses to remain up to date on daycare standards and procedures.
  • Communicate and meet with parents regarding their children and the center’s policies.
  • Help develop and implement child-care programs that support and promote the physical, cognitive, emotional and social development of children.
  • Lead activities by telling or reading stories, teaching songs, taking children to local points of interest and providing opportunities to express creativity through the media of art, dramatic play, music and physical activity.
  • Help plan and maintain an environment that protects the health, security and well-being of children.
  • Help assess the abilities, interests and needs of children and discuss progress or problems with parents and other staff members.
  • Help observe children for signs of potential learning or behavioural problems and prepare reports for parents, guardians or supervisor.
  • Guide and assist children in the development of proper eating, dressing and toilet habits.
  • Establish and maintain collaborative relationships with co-workers and community service providers working with children.
  • May plan and organize activities for school-age children in child-care programs before and after regular school hours.
  • Perform other related duties that do not affect the nature of the job, including participating on project task teams or assisting with special assignments.

  • Excellent communicator, able to confidently take prospective parents on a tour, write newsletters and submit funding reports.
  • Strong crisis and conflict management abilities, able to retain composure in adverse situations.
  • Leadership skills that keep staff motivated.

Qualifications

  • Required: Early Childhood Education Assistant Certificate.
  • Strong preference for Infant Toddler Educator Certificate.
  • Early childhood education assistant experience is an asset.
  • Must have a good knowledge of child safety requirements and possess current and applicable WHMIS, First Aid and CPR certifications.
  • Valid BC Class 5 Driver’s License.

Salary Range: $ 20.00 to $ 26 per hour depending on qualifications and skills;

Term:               Indefinite (Upon Completion of Probation)

Scope:              Full Time, 35 Hour Per Week
