Description

Xaxli'p First Nation is hiring a full-time Addictions & Mental Health Recovery Worker.

The wage is $27-$32/hour depending on skills and qualifications. Must be able to travel and work flexible hours and days to meet the needs of Xaxli’p Members.

The Addictions and Mental Health Recovery Worker is primarily responsible for prevention, assessment and referrals, treatment, aftercare, community development, liaison, health promotion and administration. Please see attachment for the full job description.

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
• Promote and participate in cultural, recreational, and social programs that offer an alternative to an addictive lifestyle.
• Provide appropriate client referrals to detox and treatment centres.
• Assist in monitoring clients, case management and development of client’s case plans and goals.
• Provide preventative counseling services to individuals and families at risk of becoming dependent on drugs, alcohol and/or other substances.
• Provide one-on-one and group counseling services for clients who choose not to access detox/treatment centers.
• Develop client supportive roles and structures in the community.
• Follow up with clients returning from treatment.
• Work collaboratively with other health and service providers.
• Create a client focused recovery plan (daily, recreational, social, educational, employment). 
•Keep track of program budgets and expenses.
•Collaborate/Liaison with Community Health Nurse to plan and coordinate outreach (harm reduction).

QUALIFICATIONS
•Formal training in Alcohol and Drug prevention and intervention from an accredited institution
•Preferred Diploma in Alcohol and Drug Counseling or Bachelor of Social Work (A combination of education and experience will be considered).
•Prefer 3-4 years related experience.
•Knowledge of Alcohol & Drug Treatment & Referral.
•Minimum three (3) years sobriety of any substance abuse & leading a healthy lifestyle.
•Cleared Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector.
•First Aid certificate, CPR, and Naloxone Training (or willingness to learn).
•Valid Class 5 Drivers License is required. Class 4 Drivers License is an Asset.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES
•Previous experience working in an Indigenous community.
•Knowledge of St’at’imc Culture, Language and Healing Practices.
•Excellent oral and written communication and comprehension skills.
•Active listening and critical thinking skills.
•Ability to function independently and in a team environment.
•Demonstrated organizational and time management skills; work effectively under pressure and meet deadlines.
•Good knowledge of the vision and values of Xaxli’p and the community overall.
